The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services developed the Form I-9 pursuant to the passage of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA). The Act requires all employers to verify the identity of newly hired employees and that they are eligible to work in the United States. Accordingly, every individual, both citizen and noncitizen, must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (I9) at the time of hire.
E-Verify is an Internet-based system that the University of Louisville uses during the hire of prospective employees.
This system compares information from an employee’s Form I-9, to data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility. A presidential executive order and subsequent Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) rule requires federal contractors to use E-Verify to electronically verify the employment eligibility of employees working under covered federal contracts.
Please note, the University of Louisville strictly adheres to the Immigration Reform and Control Act and all requirements of the Employment Eligibility Verification and the Form I-9. Once the prospective employee is entered into the Onboarding Portal they must complete all steps, including an I-9 verification through E-Verify.
To complete your I-9 prospective employees must have an appointment. To Schedule please visit the follow links for either our Belknap Campus or Health Sciences Campus (HSC) office locations.
